Carnevale, by Michelle Lovric, Peace like a River by Leif Enger, In the Memory of the Forest, Charles T. Powers.
Which writers do you admire, and why?
Many fiction writers — far too many to list: a few that spring to mind are Sebastian Faulks, wonderful story teller, Jane Gardam, for wit and pathos, Patrick McCabe for dark humour, the amazing TC Boyle, witty, entertaining, often brilliant, Edith Wharton, especially House of Mirth, Pat Barker, striking, evocative, especially Union Street and the trilogy, Kate Grenville, especially Lilian’s Story, Alice Munro for her penetrating, thought-provoking stories — I could go on and on!
What, or who, inspired you to write this book?
The Kalahari Desert; and people who made it their home.
My earliest memory …
My earliest memory is walking in the fields near our home with my father and the dogs. I remember thinking that the sun smelt lovely, but I think it was the long pale grass in which the dogs ran free..
What would you say is the most challenging part of writing?
The most challenging part is probably the discipline; then it’s getting past the obstacles and cul-de-sacs, of which there are many in even a single day’s writing!
What was the most enjoyable aspect of writing this book?
Visiting the Kalahari, unexpectedly discovering my story in its remarkable wilderness, and pursuing it through seven visits!
My favourite guilty pleasure …
My favourite guilty pleasure is reading when I should be writing..
Is writing your full-time employment? If not, what is your ‘day job’?
I would like to say writing is my full-time employment, and it probably is; but walking, climbing, family, housekeeping, money matters and reading absorb a good bit of my time too!
Which super-human power would you most like to have?
I would like to be writing books and climbing mountains when my chronological age says I’m long past doing either!
What was your favourite book as a child?
Grimm’s Fairy Tales, Pippa Longstocking, Girl of the Limberlost and all Enid Blyton books except Noddy..

This novel was recommended to me by a friend overseas. I live in the U.S. and cannot seem to obtain a copy. I would love to read this book! Any ideas on how I might find it here or purchase it online would be appreciated.
Thank You!
