There are only four days until Roald Dahl’s birthday (on 13 September) and this year, we’ll be celebrating Roald Dahl Day in style. 2011 is a double celebration, as it’s been 50 years since James and the Giant Peach was first published, so our celebrations this year are inspired by the book.

We hope you’ll get involved during the entire month of September and download this pack or poster, where you’ll find tons of ideas to put on a splendiferous and gloriumptious Peach Party in your school or library.

What’s more, we’ll even reward you for holding that party (how cool is that?!). Email us pics of your Peach Party (to puffin@za.penguingroup.com) and if you’ve hosted the most whizzpopping-looking party, you could win one of two AMAZING Roald Dahl boxsets (each set contains 15 of his most-loved stories).

Or if you’re not feeling particularly ‘partyish’ (and why not?!) but still want to get involved, then send a Peach-gram to a friend and watch it travel across the world…

Lucky Penguins join Bryan Adams at Jock Premiere

A few lucky Penguins joined the legendary Bryan Adams last night at the premiere of the Jock of the Bushveld movie at Montecasino.

The swanky evening was black tie and guests strolled up a specially produced yellow carpet into the cinema itself.

Canadian rocker Bryan Adams (who plays the voice of grown up Jock) rubbed shoulders with our very own Johnny Clegg, who has written music for the film.

The inside scoop is that the animated film (in 3D) is just as good as anything produced overseas and that it makes you feel so proud to be South African!

We can’t wait to see it when it comes out on 29^th July. In the meantime, we’ve produced some gorgeous Jock books that are sure to whet your appetite and are available now.

Children’s classic Winnie the Pooh by A.A Milne has been made into a movie releasing in cinemas today. The movie stars John Cleese as the narrator and Jim Cummings as the voice of the adorable Pooh.

Lily Herne, Deadlands

Lily Herne’s new zombie novel Deadlands, has debuted to exciting reviews and has only been gaining in momentum since its release. The book has been described as a political satire with a splash of science fiction and a healthy dose of pop culture.

Deadlands takes you to Cape Town ten years in the future having been destroyed in a suburban war between the living and the living dead (zombies). Zombies, having triumphed now inhabit the suburbs of Cape Town now called Deadlands. The few surviving humans now stay in scattered and fenced in shanty towns on the city’s periphery under the protection of the mysterious ‘Guardians’, a race of humanoid figures who appeared at the end of the war and who keep the living dead at bay, albeit for a steep price.

Deadlands now also has a brand new website which gives you a look into the world of Deadlands, background on the characters, reviews and much more. Be sure to check back next week when we feature Lily Herne’s exclusive behind the scenes blog on the making of the Deadlands trailer!
