On Friday the 5th June 2009, Penguin Books SA hosted their  Penguin Walk at the Johannesburg Zoo where a 5km walk route was planned out around the animals with checkpoints put in place for everyone to collect  tokens.

Every Penguin company around the world agreed to put on their collective trainers and head for the streets or the hills on Friday June 5th 2009. In recognition of World Environment Day we wanted to demonstrate our commitment to making Penguin a greener company by raising money and planting trees.

More important than our entry into the publishing hall of fame would be the environmental impact we could have. Imagine how many trees we could plant if we’re walking to raise money in every Penguin city from Auckland to Toronto.

Penguin has always taken their environmental responsibilities very seriously and we are a little worried that we may lose sight of the issue in the current economic climate.

All in all i'm sure the happy smiles of the Penguins reflect  the success of the day as well as a fun time had by staff!
