My earliest memory …  

Reading Somerset Maugham's book On Human Bondage whilst studying for matric and having it in a drawer which could be closed when my parents walked into my room; reading Alan Paton's Cry the Beloved Country

What would you say is the most challenging part of writing?   
 
Everything -      what to say, how to say it  and not be a bore

What was the most enjoyable aspect of writing this book? 
  
Finishing it.........and all that i learnt along the way

My favourite guilty pleasure …  
 
Much too revealing

Is writing your full-time employment?  If not, what is your ‘day job’?   

I try and run a national policy think tank in South Africa which focuses on national development challenges
 
Which super-human power would you most like to have?  
 
All of them -   all knowing, all seeing, flying and being able to eat anything I liked without putting on weight
 
What was your favourite book as a child?  
 
 My two brother's books .............
